Advice to a Girl ..poem
poem Advice to a Girl by Sara Teasdale 1884 - 1933 No one worth possessing Can be quite possessed Lay that on your heart My young angry dear This truth, this hard and precious stone Lay it on your hot cheek Let it hide your tear Hold it like a crystal When you are alone And gaze in the depths of the icy stone Long, look long and you will be blessed No one worth possessing Can be quite possessed /////////////////////// d8s Beautiful poem with great wisdom shared I absolutely love this poem! It finally explains the truth about love and trying to possess the object of your affection. The more you try to possess, you become the one possessed by your own hand.d8s You become taken over by your desire to have and not your desire to love and to care ********** |
thanks for the poem
well done |

This is one of the poems that you find yourself wondering if the pragmatic tone is really true. "No one worth possessing/Can be quite possessed." Such a deep line, yet, is it really true? The romantic bent says no, but the practical says yes. I appreciate the straight-forward message in this poem, especially the lines, "My young angry dear" and, "this truth, this hard and precious stone". Perhaps all of us should be taught the realities of life as opposed to believing in "magic" and "happily ever after". I think only with age and maturity does one realize possessing someone can never be. also i like the simplicity of the ******** used in the poem. thanx _nomidya_ |
